Tips for Planning Perfect Romantic Winter Getaways

romantic getaways new hampshire, northwest romantic getawaysThe dreary winter months can really get you down, but instead of staying inside, why not use this as an opportunity to spend some quality alone time with your significant other?  Planning romantic winter getaways makes quite a lot of sense since you’re cooped up inside anyway, so why not spend that time reconnecting as a couple?

But before running out into the snow, there are some important things to consider in order for romantic winter getaways to be restful and romantic; just showing up at some ski lodge or cabin in the dead of winter and thinking that romance is going to happen automatically is probably a mistake.  Here are some things to consider.

One thing to keep in mind is that if you’re having a case of cabin fever at home, those romantic winter getaways might not be a cure.  It’s always good to plan on doing something to get you outside and get you active.  Most ski resorts have other activities you can engage in even if you don’t ski or snowboard; this might include hiking, snowshoeing, sleigh rides, horseback riding, or ice skating.

If you plan for romantic winter getaways in a nice town, you can probably also get out and walk around the different stores or area attractions.  Look for time when they have ice carving demonstrations or something along those lines so you have something to do and somewhere to go.

Make sure you talk to each other about your expectations; if you want to get out and about and your partner is looking forward to just lounging around on the couch, you’re going to have some conflict.  Like all other vacations and trips, romantic winter getaways require open communication and compromise.  Go out one day and spend the next in the cabin, or decide on a set amount of time you’ll spend indoors or outdoors.

Another thing you must do is check on the expected weather before planning romantic winter getaways.  It’s not going to be very romantic if it’s snowing constantly and you get stuck at the airport, or worse, snowed in completely.  You might not want to go during the snowiest part of the year, and instead wait until a month that’s a bit more mild.

A pricier option is to plan romantic winter getaways at lodges and resorts.  It’s definitely worth your time to check around for bargains and package deals.  See if you can combine airfare and accommodations.  If you do stay at a ski lodge you may be able to forego a rental car since everything is right there at the lodge.

Check for places that are off the beaten path as well.  Everyone thinks of Colorado when it comes to skiing, but what about Michigan, New Hampshire, or Massachusetts?  Even areas in Canada are often more affordable than others when it comes to romantic winter getaways.

If you’re yearning for something more tropical, how about a caribbean cruise? They can be very affordable if you know where to look. This guide can help you find some great deals on cruises any time of the year:

Remember that the time you spend finding the most affordable option will be worth it in the dollars and cents you save.  So take time to compare and you’ll be sure to find the right one for you.

Romantic winter getaways are great to shake the winter blues and also reconnect as a couple. With the proper planning, they can be a very enjoyable and memorable experience.
